Raise Your Glass: The Sarsfield Brew Club Has Officially Launched!
The wait is over - beer enthusiasts, cider lovers, and winemakers alike, rejoice! The Sarsfield Brew Club officially launched yesterday, and it was a fantastic start to what will surely be a vibrant and creative community.

Noticing that the same few fellas have been talking beer at our events I wondered if a Brew Club would work in Sarsfield. We have some beer lovers, we have a community space, and we have a couple of really experienced brewers, who are willing to lead a group and teach brewing.

More sad losses within our community
Earlier this year we mourned the loss of Kevin Perry and Ian Haggar- both long time stalwarts of the Sarsfield Community. Recently we were saddened to hear of the deaths of Julie Coster and ex Sarsfield resident Phil Makings.
An AGM and great feed
The 2024 Annual General Meeting of the Sarsfield Community Association was held on Friday 30th of August. A good crowd were in attendance to hear President Cathy present a summary of the years achievements, highlights and future direction, Treasurer Durelle presented the Financials and Simon promoted the nesting box project to community members. Our long time friend and mentor from Strathewen , Malcolm Hackett, facilitated election of office bearers and a new committee for 2024/25. Malcolm shared with the meeting his positive impressions of the work of the SCA and their strength, determination and growth over the past four and a half years.
A Tale of New Sarsfieldians The Family in the Bus
Shawn and Jasmine are a couple of “treechangers” who have begun to set up their new life in Sarsfield. They both previously lived on their family hobby farm in Silvan in the Dandenong Ranges on the outskirts of Melbourne but changes in circumstances saw them searching for their own piece of paradise.
International Cricket at the SCG
arsfield Cricket Club joined with Metung/ Swan Reach to host a series of Twenty Twenty games with Squad Vic PNC. The games were social yet competitive and showcased the Bangladesh Victoria Squad.
G.A.R ROAD SAFETY
Traffic safety on the Great Alpine Road through Sarsfield was one of the identified areas of concern during the many community consultations after the 2019/20 bushfires. It is a valuable part of our Sarsfield 2030 plan.
A recent serious accident, has bought this topic to the forefront of our minds, and has reinvigorated one local's quest to improve road safety on the GAR.
FIRE SEASON PREPARATION
With the warm spring well and truly here, we need to start thinking ahead for what is gearing up to be a hot summer.

Fun games night Friday 19th July
Last Friday 19th July we had a fun Games night at the Hall, don’t miss it when we have the next one! BYO Nibbles and drinks, Fun Games and Chat, the Hall was warm and the laughs many!
Thanks to East Gippsland Community Foundation for their support in paying the hall hire for the night.
The Business Plan for the New Hall and reserve provoked lively Discussion
The Sarsfield community showed strong support at last night’s meeting to discuss our new Hall & Reserve. Thanks to the East Gippsland Community Foundation, the evening continued with dinner and darts, fostering a spirited atmosphere. With the project's contract now signed, the planning phase is in full swing, guided by the EGSC and Mark Tickner. We're excited to involve the community in every step, balancing our dreams with the budget. To join the planning efforts or the SCA Project Working Group, contact Simon at 0472 838 149. This is a chance to shape a vibrant future for our community’s gathering space.
Finally, the money is locked and loaded!
Excitement surged through our community on April 6th as Minister Kristy McBain and Mayor Mark Reeves of EGSC confirmed the long-awaited news: the $3.6 million funding agreement has been signed! This pivotal moment marks the beginning of our journey to construct a new community hall and an awesome playground. The realization of this project follows a path of many dashed hopes, but our persistence has paid off. We're now gearing up to transform our vision into reality.
Finally, a new hall for Sarsfield
Joy erupted at Sarsfield Recreation Reserve last Friday as the community received the exciting news of funding approval for a new community hall and reserve enhancements. Despite previous setbacks, including eligibility issues and program cancellations, persistent community advocacy finally bore fruit. This funding will enable the construction of a new hall, walking trails, and a nature-based playground, providing essential support and recovery infrastructure. Simon Hof, President of the Sarsfield Community Association, expressed deep gratitude for the widespread political and community support that helped realize their vision, marking a significant milestone in Sarsfield’s journey towards recovery and resilience.
Sarsfield Snaps, What a Journey!
At the heart of Sarsfield, a community rebuilding from devastating bushfires, the resilience of its youth was showcased during the launch of "Sarsfield Snaps," a coffee table book filled with powerful photographs taken by local children. The event on October 7, 2022, highlighted the project that empowered over sixty young participants to capture and share their recovery journey through photography. Renowned conservationist Robert Irwin praised their efforts in a recorded message, applauding the transformative power of their work. The project not only celebrated their artistic achievements but also connected them with global peers, fostering a sense of unity and healing.

The “social” cricket match between the two neighbouring fire impacted communities of Clifton Creek and Sarsfield is back for 2022.
