Sandhill Ashes

Sandhill Ashes Urn

The Sandhill Ashes Urn was crafted from a piece of tea tree salvaged from a peat paddock fire that burned for weeks on a nearby farm.

The tea tree surfaced from under the peat that was put there about 90 years ago by Chinese market gardeners for drainage

Co-organiser and Sarsfield player Phil Schneider salvaged and collected the wood.

It was pretty well preserved so I collected a few bits of it … and when the Sandhill Ashes were proposed I took the pieces down to a wood turner in Lake Tyers and we worked together to make it what it is.

- Phil Schneider

It is a symbolic prize presented to the winning team that is currently housed at the Sarsfield Hall.
