The Business Plan for the New Hall and reserve provoked lively Discussion
The Sarsfield community showed strong support at last night’s meeting to discuss our new Hall & Reserve. Thanks to the East Gippsland Community Foundation, the evening continued with dinner and darts, fostering a spirited atmosphere. With the project's contract now signed, the planning phase is in full swing, guided by the EGSC and Mark Tickner. We're excited to involve the community in every step, balancing our dreams with the budget. To join the planning efforts or the SCA Project Working Group, contact Simon at 0472 838 149. This is a chance to shape a vibrant future for our community’s gathering space.
Finally, the money is locked and loaded!
Excitement surged through our community on April 6th as Minister Kristy McBain and Mayor Mark Reeves of EGSC confirmed the long-awaited news: the $3.6 million funding agreement has been signed! This pivotal moment marks the beginning of our journey to construct a new community hall and an awesome playground. The realization of this project follows a path of many dashed hopes, but our persistence has paid off. We're now gearing up to transform our vision into reality.
Finally, a new hall for Sarsfield
Joy erupted at Sarsfield Recreation Reserve last Friday as the community received the exciting news of funding approval for a new community hall and reserve enhancements. Despite previous setbacks, including eligibility issues and program cancellations, persistent community advocacy finally bore fruit. This funding will enable the construction of a new hall, walking trails, and a nature-based playground, providing essential support and recovery infrastructure. Simon Hof, President of the Sarsfield Community Association, expressed deep gratitude for the widespread political and community support that helped realize their vision, marking a significant milestone in Sarsfield’s journey towards recovery and resilience.
Sarsfield community ‘ecstatic’ after government pivot on bushfire funding
The Sarsfield community in East Gippsland is rejoicing after receiving funding to build a new community hall and playground, thanks to persistent advocacy and significant support from local MP Darren Chester and other key figures. Simon Hof, President of the Sarsfield Community Association, expressed deep gratitude towards everyone who rallied for Sarsfield during a challenging recovery period following the Black Summer bushfires. While celebrating this victory, Simon also voiced concern for neighboring communities like Buchan and Wairewa, still in dire need of similar support. As Sarsfield looks forward to constructing vital facilities for recovery and community activities, they remain committed to advocating for all impacted areas, ensuring that no community is left behind in the ongoing recovery efforts.
National Recovery and Resilience Agency Announcement
This week, our Sarsfield Community Association faced a setback when our application for National Summer Bushfire Recovery funding was deemed ineligible due to a technicality with our ABN status. Despite this, our volunteers have tirelessly led the recovery since the devastating 2019 fires, which destroyed 80 homes and impacted 200 more in our community. As we push forward with plans for essential new facilities, we urge everyone to rally behind Sarsfield. Contact Senator Bridget McKenzie to express the critical need for these developments, share our story widely using #whataboutsarsfield, and consider joining our dedicated committee. Let's unite to ensure Sarsfield's voice is heard and its recovery needs are met. Together, we can overcome this hurdle and continue building a resilient future.
