Sarsfield vs Clifton Creek Sunday 26 March 2023

The third Sandhill Ashes event is fast approaching.

The “social” cricket match between the two neighbouring fire impacted communities of Clifton Creek and Sarsfield will take place at the Sarsfield Recreation Reserve.

Last years thrilling victory to Sarsfield has the Clifton Creeker's eager to turn the tables. They have organized training and BBQ sessions to prepare themselves for the big event.

ABC Radio broadcaster Craig Bush will again MC and commentate on the day, Twin Rivers Lions are cooking a BBQ, Wacky wombat will wander around and if the match slows Black Snake Productions are there with their terrific Wildlife display.

We hope to see you there for another great match!

Sandhill Ashes Urn

The Sandhill Ashes Urn was crafted from a piece of tea tree salvaged from a peat paddock fire that burned for weeks on a nearby farm.

The tea tree surfaced from under the peat that was put there about 90 years ago by Chinese market gardeners for drainage

Co-organiser and Sarsfield player Phil Schneider salvaged and collected the wood.

"It was pretty well preserved so I collected a few bits of it … and when the Sandhill Ashes were proposed I took the pieces down to a wood turner in Lake Tyers and we worked together to make it what it is." - Phil Schneider

It is a symbolic prize presented to the winning team that is currently housed at the Sarsfield Hall.
